My name is Catherine Pallenik, though I generally go by Casey. In December 2008 I graduated from American University’s School of Communication with a B.A. in Visual Media and a minor in Marketing.

As a Visual Media student I studied visual and written communication methods; as a marketing student I combined my strong and diverse communication skills with the practical applications of marketing and business strategy.

My concentration in the School of Communication has allowed me to explore many facets of visual media. In my courses, I have

  • directed and edited short films
  • developed websites
  • taken photographs with both 35mm and digital cameras
  • designed publications and posters
  • written news articles for various types of media
  • created a 15-second interstitial that aired on Maryland Public Television in April 2008 during Chesapeake Bay Week

To this academic foundation I have added valuable research and analytical experience through professional experience at

  • The White House
  • Atlantic Media Company, publisher of The Atlantic and National Journal magazines
  • AARP Broadcast
  • National Geographic Channel in the Programming and Acquisitions department, which was particularly rewarding because it allowed me to combine my visual background with strategic business skills.

Currently, I live in Washington, DC and work as an advance associate for the White House, though my job keeps me on the road most days.

I created this website because I wanted a way to display my motion graphics work, photography and resume. Like myself, this website is a constant work in progress, though I have high hopes for it.

Best,

Casey
